Regency Authorized Dealer: Gas Fireplace Repair and Cleaning in Port Moody
A gas fireplace that is cleaned regularly lights on the first try, burns with a full bright flame, and rarely needs a repair. The cleaning and safety inspection from Eaton's Heating covers the burner, the logs, the glass, the pilot assembly, and the venting, and it is the visit we make most often in Port Moody from September through March. When something has already gone wrong, the same service call covers the diagnostic instead, and every repair is quoted before the work starts. We service every residential brand, including Regency, Napoleon, Valor, Montigo, Heat and Glo, Enviro, Majestic, Kingsman, and more, and we have been a Regency authorized dealer for years. Same-day service available.

Most of the fireplaces we see in Port Moody are the direct-vent units the builders put into the Heritage Woods, Heritage Mountain, Klahanie, Suter Brook, and Newport Village homes between the mid 1990s and 2010. They are now 16 to 30 years old, and most have never been opened since the day they were installed. Behind the glass, the burner ports fill with dust and pet hair, the logs shift, the pilot flame shrinks as the assembly clogs, and the glass takes on a white haze. None of that is a fault yet. It is what the cleaning and inspection visit fixes, and it is why we tell people to book the gas fireplace repair team for a cleaning before the fireplace fails rather than after.
The other group is the older inserts and log sets in the Glenayre and College Park homes, some installed decades ago in the original fireplace opening. Those usually run on a standing pilot and a millivolt gas valve, which is a valve that operates on the small electric current the pilot flame itself produces, with no household power involved. As a Regency authorized dealer we know that generation of equipment well. We service the Napoleon, Valor, Montigo, Regency, Heat and Glo, Enviro, Majestic, and Kingsman units of every age, and every other residential brand. Parts for most of them are still available, and the ones we replace most are on the truck: the thermopile, the thermocouple, the pilot assembly, and the blower. Every part is OEM and CSA certified, with six months of warranty on parts and labour.
A repair visit starts the same way as a cleaning, because a dirty fireplace produces most of the symptoms people call about. If the fireplace will not stay lit, we test the thermocouple and the thermopile first. The thermocouple is the safety sensor that holds the pilot open, and the thermopile is the generator that makes the current for the gas valve. Replacing either one is a quick repair. If it clicks but never lights, the ignition module, the spark electrode, or the batteries on a unit with battery backup are checked. If the flame is low or yellow, the burner and the air shutter are cleaned and set. If the fan rattles or has gone quiet, the blower is replaced. Each is quoted before the work starts. Eaton's Heating is TSBC licensed (LGA0200006), a Home Performance Contractor Network member, and holds a 4.9 rating across 400-plus Google reviews.
Our Port Moody HVAC services treat the fireplace as part of the house's heating, and in the hillside homes the fireplace in the family room or the walkout basement often carries that floor from October to April. That makes the older units worth repairing. A 25-year-old fireplace with a new thermopile and a cleaned burner looks and runs like it did the day it went in. When a firebox has rusted through or the valve is no longer made, we say so, and the next step is gas fireplace installation in Port Moody: a new unit into the existing opening, or a new log set into an existing firebox, both quoted on the same visit.
The white film that builds up on fireplace glass is not smoke. It is a mineral deposit from the gas itself and from the sealants and paints inside a new unit curing during the first few fires, and it builds fastest on a fireplace that has never been cleaned. Ordinary glass cleaner does not touch it, and scrubbing it with the wrong pad scratches the ceramic glass for good. On a cleaning visit the glass comes off, the haze is removed with a fireplace glass cleaner made for it, and the gasket that seals the glass to the firebox is checked, because a gasket that has flattened lets room air into the firebox and changes how the flame burns.
Glass that has gone cloudy right through, or that has a chip or a crack, is replaced rather than cleaned. Fireplace glass is a ceramic panel rated for the heat inside the firebox, not window glass, and a cracked panel on a direct-vent unit means the sealed firebox is no longer sealed. We supply and fit replacement glass for every brand we service, and it is quoted before the work starts like any other repair. Most of the haze calls we get in Port Moody, though, end with the original glass cleaned and back in place.

Same-day service available, and the phone is answered 24/7. Fireplace calls in Port Moody climb in late September when the first cold evenings arrive, and October and November are the busiest months of the year for us. A cleaning booked in September is the easiest appointment to get, and it is the one that stops the November call from happening.
The glass comes off and is cleaned inside and out. The logs and embers come out, the burner is cleaned and its ports cleared, the pilot assembly is cleaned, and the logs go back in the pattern the manufacturer specifies, because a log placed wrong yellows the flame and soots the glass. The pilot, the thermocouple, and the thermopile are tested, the gas connections are checked, the venting is inspected, the blower is cleaned, and the fireplace is run to confirm it lights, holds, and shuts down properly. If we find something that needs a part, it is quoted separately and you decide.
On a standing-pilot unit, that is usually a weak thermocouple or thermopile, the two sensors that sit in the pilot flame. The thermocouple holds the pilot open, and the thermopile makes the current that holds the main burner on. When either weakens, the valve closes and the flame drops. Both are short repairs. A pilot flame that has shrunk because the assembly is clogged does the same thing, and that is a cleaning rather than a part.
Usually, yes, and usually a small one. The units in Port Moody's 2000s homes have electronic ignition, and when they click without lighting the fault is in the spark electrode, the ignition module, or, on units with a battery backup, the batteries. If nothing happens at all, the wall switch or the remote receiver is checked before anything inside the fireplace. The diagnostic visit covers the whole chain, and the fix is quoted before the work starts.
Yes. The blower under the firebox pushes heated air into the room, and it collects dust for years without being cleaned. A rattling or grinding fan is usually a blower with worn bearings, and a fan that has stopped is usually the blower motor or the temperature switch that turns it on. Blowers are replaced from stock for the common brands, and a cleaning often quiets a fan that has only collected dust.
Once a year is the manufacturers' recommendation, and once every two years is the minimum for a fireplace that runs most evenings through the winter. In Port Moody's hillside homes, where the fireplace heats the family room or the walkout basement for six months of the year, once a year in early fall is the right rhythm. A fireplace that is only lit a few times a season can go longer, but the pilot assembly and the glass still need attention every few years.
