A Regency fireplace is also more customizable than most fireplaces. The same unit can be finished as a traditional log fire with a cast-look faceplate that suits a 1912 Sapperton living room, or as a clean linear flame over glass crystals or stones that suits a Victoria Hill townhome with a flat surround. The faceplate comes in several profiles and finishes, the interior panels come in brick, black steel, or reflective enamel, and the fire bed can be logs, driftwood, crystals, or stones. The openings are as varied as the houses. Queen's Park and Sapperton have brick fireplaces with 1990s and 2000s gas inserts now 20 to 30 years old. The Quayside and Uptown towers have 30-year-old open-front gas fireplaces, hundreds of them, that a modern insert replaces without changing the vent on the outside of the building. Queensborough and Victoria Hill townhomes have framed builder fireplaces from the 2000s. In every case the new unit goes into the opening the old one came out of, the faceplate covers the edge, and the brick, tile, stone, mantel, and hearth stay as they are. Not every replacement is a whole new unit. If the fireplace is sound and only the look is dated, a new 18-inch or 24-inch log set gives the unit a new fire for a fraction of a replacement, and it is done in a couple of hours. If the firebox is rusted through, the parts are no longer made, or you want a different fireplace, the whole unit comes out and a new Regency or Napoleon goes in. On installation day the old fireplace is disconnected and removed, the new one is set into the opening, the gas and vent are connected, the faceplate is fitted, and the fireplace is run. Most replacements are finished in one day, we take the old unit away, and the Regency warranty is registered on your behalf.
The E18E is the Regency insert built for one job: replacing an older open-front gas fireplace with a modern sealed unit, using the vent that is already there. That describes most of the fireplaces in New Westminster's 1990s apartment towers and many of the builder units in Sapperton and Uptown from the same years. The old fireplaces have an open front, a standing pilot, and no glass, and they send most of their heat up the vent. The E18E slides into that opening, connects to the existing vent with no change to the termination on the outside wall, and in most cases keeps the surround you have. What you get is a sealed glass front, electronic ignition, a fan, a remote, and a fire that puts its heat into the room.
It is the unit we install most here because it fits the buildings. It goes into a condo without touching the building's exterior, into a townhome without opening the wall, and into a detached house where a small insert is the right size for the room. It takes the same faceplate, panel, and fire bed choices as the larger Regency inserts, so a Quayside living room can have a traditional log fire and the unit next door can have crystals. When the opening is larger or the room needs more heat, the Liberty and Horizon inserts are the next size up, and the estimate visit shows you which one your opening takes.

Crystals and stones suit the linear look in a modern room; logs suit a traditional faceplate in an older house. Any of them can be changed later, because the fire bed sits on top of the burner and is not built into the unit.
